'Quantico' season 2 release date: September premiere; Blair Underwood is new series regular

 ABC

"Quantico" season 2, as reported by Premiere Date, will officially begin this coming September. Although not all of the original cast members will be returning, particularly for Simon (Tate Ellington) and Liam (Josh Hopkins), the show will not feel empty as the Hollywood Reporter states actor Blair Underwood has been cast as a series regular.

According to the report, he is portraying a CIA officer named Owen Hall, one that new officers look up to and strive to become. He is further described to be someone direct but comfortable and charming to be around which may explain why many fledlging officers like to stick around him.

However, the report continues to point out that there is something fishy about. It is hinted that he may not just be managing and supervising them but could also be using the younger officers he is in charge of for something else, something darker and more sinister.

Fans will recall that at the end of season 1 Alex (Priyanka Chopra) decided to quit the FBI following the series of events regarding Liam's attempt to frame her for a terrorist attack and was approached by the CIA to become one of their new agents. It is possible she may become one of the officers working under Owen Hall.

Show runner Joshua Safran teased about this potential mix between the FBI and CIA in season 2 back in May when he sat down for an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

"The FBI teaches honest and trust and finding the truth and protection, and the CIA teaches deception and lying and twisting information to get what you want, what you need," he stated. "We're definitely interested in juxtaposing those two things and seeing how both sides work separately, and how they work when they're forced to work together."

"Quantico" season 2 premieres this Sept. 25.
