Android fans were worried that they would be waiting in vain for more powerful smartphones because of a reported delay in the release of Qualcomm's latest processor, but there is not much cause for worry anymore. Chipmaker Qualcomm debunked reports claiming that the release of the Snapdragon 810 processor will be delayed.
"I can tell you that everything with Snapdragon 810 remains on track and we expect commercial devices to be available in 1H 2015," Qualcomm's Senior Director of Public Relations Jon Carvill told Fudzilla.
Last week, reports stated Qualcomm will delay the launch of its forthcoming Snapdragon 810 chipset as the company is allegedly having problems in the production of the new processor. According to Business Korea, an unnamed source tipped that the chipset overheats and slows down in performance due to unspecified problems in the RAM controller connected to the AP. The report also said that there is a problem in the Adreno 420 GPU.
This worried consumers as the Snapdragon 810 is one of the speculated main features of upcoming handsets. The delay in the release of the next generation of Qualcomm's chipset will also push back the launch of some of the upcoming smartphones. Some of these anticipated smartphones are Samsung Galaxy S6, LG G4, HTC One M9 and Sony Xperia Z4, expected to be announced at the Consumer Electronics Show and Mobile World Congress early next year.
Another possible outcome of this situation is that the handsets may have to resort back to Snapdragon 805, which is no match to Apple's A8 processor. Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy S6 will most likely feature its own octa-core Exynos chipset. LG Electronics is also reported to be working on its own processor line coined as Nuclun.
Now, excited tech enthusiasts can look forward to more powerful devices since Qualcomm has reassured consumers that the release of the company's first 20nm SoC is still on track and will be launched on the first half of 2015, although the company did not pinpoint an exact release date for the hardware.
