PS4 Neo release date, price: Console to arrive in September during Tokyo Game Show?

PlayStation 4 Sony Entertainment

Sony officially confirmed that they were working on an upgraded, more powerful PlayStation 4 during this year's E3 but did not release an official launch date for the console. However, in a report from the Wall Street Journal, it was speculated that fans won't need to wait long as it might be released as early this September.

According to the report, the PS4 Neo is likely to launch by Sept. 15 during the Tokyo Game Show. However, it is also stated that it won't be alone as Sony is also reportedly going to launch a cheaper, slimmer version of the regular PS4 at the same time. This would mirror the Xbox One launching both the slim Xbox One S and the powerful Xbox One Scorpio.

However, it is also noted that Sony started the trend first as far back as the PlayStation One era. The PS One did have a slimmer version and so did every next generation console that followed.

The PS4 Neo is expected to support 4K resolution video gaming, a consistent 60 fps for video games due to its more powerful hardware and it will be powerful enough to natively support VR video games, which require powerful hardware in order to run smoothly.

Despite this, the PS4 Neo won't have any exclusive games as a report from Alphr has explained that all games launched for the PS4 Neo should also run on the regular PS4. Games run on the PS4 Neo will simply have a "boosted" mode that guarantees 4K support, 60 fps gaming and other benefits.

In terms of its price, PC Advisor points out that the regular PS4 is likely going to see a price drop, going down to $250 or even lower, and this will mean the PS4 Neo will likely launch with a $300 to $350 price tag. The price for the speculated PS4 Slim has yet to be revealed.
