As previously reported, a new form of Mewtwo has surfaced for the upcoming "Pokken Tournament," the fighting game co-developed by Bandai Namco. Dubbed "Dark Mewtwo," the new form appears to be a new Mega Evolution that futher points to the chance of The Pokemon Company releasing "Pokemon Z" some time soon.

Mewtwo, the first legendary Pokemon in the franchise, was first introduced in the original "first generation" Gameboy titles "Pokemon Red" and "Pokemon Blue." Later on, Mewtwo would gain two Mega Evolutions in "Pokemon X" and "Pokemon Y" on the 3DS.

This "Dark Mewtwo" may be the third Mega Evolution for Mewtwo, which would release alongside a third 3DS game, the highly speculated "Pokemon Z," the mobile augmented-reality title "Pokemon Go"  or an unknown spin-off game.

However, there are no confirmations yet if this "Dark Mewtwo" will be making an appearance in other "Pokemon" games or if it is a "Pokken Tournament" exclusive since the game is being developed by a third-party company instead of Game Freak and The Pokemon Company.

"Dark Mewtwo" may be hinting at the existence of "Pokemon Z" but it may also be yet another time-exclusive event gift such as the recently released Shiny Xerneas and Shiny Yveltal.

Other than the emergence of "Dark Mewtwo," there have been other tidbits pointing to the possible existence of "Pokemon Z" such as the different forms of the legendary Pokemon Zygarde and the launch of the new anime series "Pokemon XY and Z."

"Pokemon X" and "Pokemon Y" launched on the 3DS back in 2013 and it was widely expected for a "Pokemon Z" to follow. But instead, Game Freak released a remake of "Pokemon Ruby" and "Pokemon Sapphire." It is possible that the company will release "Pokemon Z," with the new form of Mewtwo, before they move on to the next main entry in the series.
