'Pokemon Sun and Moon' starters news: Legendaries on show in new trailer; game arrives Nov. 18

Solgaleo and Lunala on the Pokemon Sun and Moon box arts The Pokemon Company

A new trailer for "Pokemon Sun and Moon" has been released and the short video clip reveals the two new Legendary Pokemon that will appear on the games' box art. On the "Pokemon Sun" box art is the Legendary known as Solgaleo while the Legendary known as Lunala will be on the box art for "Pokemon Moon."

As stated in a report from IGN, Solgaleo is a Psychic-Steel type and comes with the Full Metal Body ability. This ability prevents Solgaleo's stats from being lowered by other Pokemon abilities and attacks. It also has a brand new attack that is refered to as the Sunsteel Strike.

Lunala is a Psychic-Ghost type and has the Shadow Shield ability. This lowers damage of attacks made by an enemy Pokemon that still has full HP. Lunala's main attack is refered to as the Moongeist Beam. Where Solgaleo's attack appears to be a physical attack charged with the sun's energy, Lunala's attack is a special energy blast.

The trailer also reveals that the game's setting of Alola is split between four main islands, each one with a different type of landscape. This may allow one island to have a more tropical design while the others feature something different.

Like past games, the player will be in control of a young teenager who has just moved to the region. Players can choose between a male or female avatar and can also customize how they look. Just like the mechanics in "Pokemon X and Y" it is expected that players will also have the option to buy new clothes and alter how their avatars look.

Several NPCs are also revealed in the trailer. This game's professor is known as Professor Kukui. Kukui has a "mysterious assistant," a young girl dressed in white named Lillie. It is speculated she will be this game's rival or antagonist of some sort. There is also Hau, the main protagonist's new friend in Alola.

The Pokedex is also receiving a few changes. The Pokemon Rotom, which has the ability to possess household items, can now merge with the Pokedex, creating a brand new way of using and communicating with the device.

"Pokemon Sun and Moon" launches for the Nintendo 3DS this Nov. 18.
