'Persona 5' news: U.S. getting the game on Valentine's Day 2017

Persona 5 Atlus

"Persona 5" will be released in Japan this coming September, and a report from the official PlayStation blog has announced that the game will be released for both the PS4 and PS3 in the U.S. on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 2017. Exclusive to the PS4 version is a special Premium Edition which will come with several rare collectibles.

The "Take You Heart" Premium Edition of the game will come with a large collectible box and will cost $89.99. This Premium Edition will come with a CD of the game's official soundtrack, a 4-inch plush toy of the character Morgana, a 64-page hardcover art book, a specialized steelbook and a "Persona 5" school bag.

For fans solely interested in the game, there will also be a special Launch Edition of the game packaged in a steelbook case that features the art that also comes with the Premium Edition. The Launch Edition is solely for the PS4 version and will come at a $59.99 price tag.

The PS3 version of the game is also confirmed and will cost for $49.99. It was previously rumored that the PS3 version would not launch in the West and would be a Japanese-exclusive given that the PS3 is still widely popular in Japan but is already declining in the U.S. due to the strong sales of the PS4 and Xbox One.

It is also explained that the reason for the delay to 2017 will be showcased at this year's E3, which will take place from June 14 to June 16. According to the announcement, "attention to detail" has been the main cause for the game's delay. "Persona 5" was initially scheduled to be released in 2015 and this was pushed to 2016 and now 2017.

"Persona 5" is noted to be the biggest game from Atlus and is going to push the boundaries of the franchise by switching things up by having the main characters chased by the authorities instead of the protagonists being young detectives trying to solve a crime.
