'Person of Interest' season 5 spoilers, news: S5 to serve as ending, lose some characters

Actor Michael Emmerson recently participated in a short Q&A interview for IndieWire, in which he primarily discussed what it was like working on the series "Person of Interest." However, toward the end of the interview, he indicated two vital points that fans should look forward to in the upcoming fifth season.

"I think because we're thinking of this like an ending — although I'm guessing it will be ambiguous enough to be pursued later on — it's an ending," he explained. "Splashy endings usually involve casualties. So I think we're likely to either lose characters or have them somehow transformed."

Emmerson's first statement makes it clear that the season 5 finale of "Person of Interest" can serve as the series' finale. If the show gets the luck of being renewed for a sixth season, they at least have kept it open enough for the story to continue, although Emmerson did not explain the depth of ambiguity they are pursuing in season 5's ending.

He also noted that the finale will involve casualties, although it won't be limited to just characters being killed off. The actor mentioned characters transforming, which could be an indication of several key characters switching sides with good guys and becoming antagonists and vice versa.

Signs of the show being cancelled were spotted when CBS revealed that the fifth season of "Person of Interest" would have fewer episodes and wouldn't return on air until after the mid-season break. For most television shows, a season cut in half is often a sign of getting cancelled, most likely due to low viewer ratings.

CBS has tried to pull in more viewers by finally putting the show for online streaming via Netflix. The first three seasons are currently available on Netflix and season 4 will follow on Sept. 22. The show has also entered syndication on WGN America.

As a side note, Emmerson did confirm that Sarah Shahi and Carrie Preston will be present in season 5, which was previously reported by Zap2It
