'Person of Interest' season 5 release date in summer 2016

 CBS

CBS has revealed its lineup for the mid-season but fans have noticed that "Person of Interest" season 5 has not been included despite being scheduled for a 2016 release. According to a report from the IB Times, it is now most likely that the show has been pushed back and will release instead by summer 2016.

The report explains that one of the key factors that led to the delay is the fact that the show was not produced in-house by CBS and is instead a product of Warner Brothers Television that has been licensed for the channel.

With that in mind, CBS would prefer to fill in its slots with CBS shows instead of opening one for a series from a different production company. It is reported that CBS is merely prioritizing its own shows and that there may only be more free slots for "Person of Interest" to be inserted into by the summer when most shows are done airing.

It is also pointed out that the fifth season is still in production. If filming for the series ends by late December then it would still take some time for the post-production process to finish. There would be a lot of time needed to edit the episodes and properly screen them before allowing them to air on the channel.

"Person of Interest" season 5 is also set to be a lot shorter than previous seasons as its episode count has been cut down from an average of 22 to just 13, further implying that the series is coming to an end, although this has yet to be confirmed. However, it was previously reported that the showrunners are indeed treating this as if it was their last.

"Person of Interest" season 5 will see the team rebuild the Machine and see the return of several characters from seasons past such as Sarah Shahi as Sameen Shaw.
