When "Penny Dreadful" came out, not everyone believed that it would be a massive hit. Taking into context its dark story, it's quite a surprise how the show easily managed to capture its audience and, later, to get picked up for another season.

Now, everyone is playing the waiting game as "Penny Dreadful" is set for release in 2015 without an exact date yet. And while waiting for the second season premiere, fans of the show are also waiting for new updates.

In the Facebook page of the show, an official first look from season 2 was posted in a form of a photo. It shows Vanessa resting her head on Ethan's shoulder. Vanessa looks a bit worried but finds comfort in Ethan.

The photo is captioned, "'This season Vanessa and Ethan face new challenges, and old enemies, and turn to each other for solace. Their intimacy grows as they are forced to confront their demons together.' - John Logan, Creator."

There's no doubt that fans of the show are waiting for more of Vanessa and Ethan in season 2. However, for those who are wondering how Logan was able to make "Penny Dreadful" a massive hit, he shares the story with Variety. Hint: President of Showtime David Nevins has a lot to do with it.

Logan shared that before he did "Penny Dreadful," he hasn't done any TV series yet so it was something very new to him. His agent Joe Cohen of CAA advised him to meet Nevins. A year after that, when "Penny Dreadful" was good to go, he met with Nevins.

"He saw what we saw in the show, and championed it from the first meeting. He understood that my entire attraction to doing it was as a novelistic endeavor. I wanted to tell one story over time," Logan shared. "He gave me the organizing principle when he said that at their core, all television shows are about a family. From that note on, I always have kept the idea of building 'Penny Dreadful' as a family paramount in my mind."

Logan also shared the most valuable piece of advice that Nevins told him. It was that "the uniqueness of TV is that you're telling an ongoing story."

It looks like Logan has taken Nevin's advice to heart. And hopefully, Logan's continuous excitement for his first TV series will play on for more seasons in the future.
