Overwhelm Yourself With God's Love: 3 Ways How You Can Do It

"I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine." – Song of Solomon 6:3

Drenching ourselves in the love of God isn't that hard to do. After all, God has already lavished His love on us by sending His dear Son, our Lord Jesus, to die for our sins even though we were undeserving sinners. His love is overflowing, and it's available for anybody to partake.

Lovingly Yours

If you feel like His love for you isn't enough, or you just want more, here are some ways for you to overwhelm yourself with His love.

1. Read and Believe the Word of God

God's love is boldly, clearly, and thoughtfully articulated and expressed in the Word of God. It's the first and foremost means of drenching yourself in His love. After all, it's where His goodness is seen and made plain to us.

God's love is seen on the pages of the Bible: how He lovingly made man; how He covered man's skin by using skins from the first biblical sacrifice ever made (by Him as well); how He pursued sinful man no matter how stubborn we are; how He patiently dealt with all humankind ... The list goes on.

To top that, He sent His one and only begotten Son to die for our sakes (see John 3:16). God was in His Son Jesus, the Word made flesh, reconciling the world to Himself – the Holy God pursuing sinful man (see 2 Corinthians 5:19; John 1:14). There's no greater love than that.

2. Look at the Cross

The cross is a pendant or tattoo for some people today, but for the people in Jesus' time it was the most horrible and most terrifying way to die. For Christ, it was the only way to bring us back to the Father (see John 3:14; Hebrews 12:2).

Crucifixion was the worst penalty given to the worst of criminals during Jesus' time. Those who die on a cross are painfully and shamefully hung for all to see.

Christ's crucifixion, however, was more painful than those of others.

He had no sin. He committed no wrong. He said nothing foul. He did not deserve the cross, but we did. In His love for us, He took our place. He shed His blood and received the full wrath of God for our sins on that wooden cross so that we could be forgiven, healed, and made whole. (see Isaiah 53)

He died to pay the price for our forgiveness (see 1 John 2:2, 4:10). His death cancelled the record of charges that were against us (see Colossians 2:14). His death allowed God to make us His adopted children (see Ephesians 1:5). His resurrection gave us life and the Holy Spirit (see Romans 6:5; John 14:26). If we are in Christ, we have all of these. Think about it.

3. Remember How Undeserving We Are of His Love

Friend, no one is deserving of God's love. We were in sin, and thus we were His enemies. But God had mercy on us and saved us through the death of His Son. God allowed us to sit in the heavenly realms because Christ sat us with Him in His resurrection. God calls us His children. We didn't deserve any of this – it's all because of His mercy towards us. (see Ephesians 2:4-18)
