'Outlast' Nintendo Switch port news: Acclaimed horror title now playable on the Nintendo Switch

2013 horror game title "Outlast" now available to play on the Nintendo Switch. Red Barrel Games/ Outlast

Red Barrel's horror, survival game "Outlast" has now jumped in on the current console trend of platform porting, making its way to Nintendo's newest platform -- the Switch.

The 2013 title, which spooked and terrorized users and critics alike, made a silent appearance inside the Nintendo eShop on Feb. 27.

The port came as no surprise to most since Red Barrel previously issued a heads-up telling fans that it will be porting the two titles in the franchise, "Outlast" and the 2017 sequel "Outlast 2"will be relased  into the Nintendo Switch sometime in the first quarter of the year. The game developer even released a Facebook teaser that shows fans a pre-released game version of "Outlast" being played on the Switch.

The release comes as a package called "Bundle of Terror," which includes all the game's downloadable content and a DLC pack called "Whistleblower" -- which was outed a year later and is supposed to be a prequel to "Outlast." The game package is available for purchase in the eShop valued at $24.99.

In other news, although Red Barrel has already confirmed a Switch port for the series' sequel "Outlast 2," there have been no specific announcements indicating the date of release for the horror title.

But regardless of announcements, interested players can still pre-order the game on Nintendo's eShop before it even officially drops.

The "Outlast" franchise first burst into the gaming scene in 2013 and was instantly met with critical praise for its unique, genuine storyline and heart-racing, nightmare-inducing gameplay, and jump scares.

Four years after, it was followed by "Outlast 2," which similarly lived up to its precursor. Both games are set in the premise of supernatural events, where the protagonist fights his way through a whole horde of mad and deranged foes in order to attain the truth.
