OS X Yosemite release date: New features in store for users

 Apple

Apple has long announced that OS X Yosemite will be officially released this fall, and fans of the tech giant and its offerings anticipated its launching to coincide with the introduction of the iPhone 6 handsets and Apple Watch held earlier this September.  However, no details were mentioned about the latest desktop operating system.

iOS 8 was already launched last Sept. 17 for Apple's devices, and fans expected that the upcoming desktop operating system would also be introduced by then. However, there remains no further announcements regarding Yosemite.

Apple featured the operating system's prevew at the Worldwide Developers Conference last June, and fans saw that upgrading to OS X Yosemite will generate new and improved features for the Notification Center, Mail, Messages, and the iCloud Drive file storage, among others. Apple also mentioned that the upcoming OS will boast a "fresh and modern look" whereas controls can be expected to be "clearer, smarter and easier to understand."

Nonetheless, although no date has been pegged for its official release, Apple has already made the Yosemite's seventh developer preview version available, which can be obtained through the App Store or through the tech giant's develop portal, as pointed out by Wired magazine.

"Apple's latest desktop operating system, OS X Yosemite, won't officially come out until sometime this fall," Wired claimed, while adding: "But now that its public beta is open, both developers and a large number of Mac owners are able to use a preview version of the landmark OS."

Apple started seeding various Yosemite beta versions starting last June while the latest Developer Preview 7 version was launched only this Sept. 2. A public beta was also made available last July 24 and a second version was introduced to public testers last Aug. 21.

According to Appleinsider.com, Apple has already released not only the newest Yosemite beta but also the latest beta versions of Xcode 6, OS X Server 4.0, and Apple Configurator 1.7.
