Earlier this year, Apple made an announcement that the OS X Yosemite will be set for a release this fall. However, at the launch of the iPhone 6 and the Apple Watch last Tuesday, no details about the upcoming desktop operating system had been mentioned.

While the iOS 8 has already been slotted for an official release on Sept. 17, it remains unclear whether the next desktop OS will be made available on the same date.

Previewed at the Worldwide Developers Conference by Apple last June 2, a free upgrade to the OS X Yosemite is expected to bring in new features, such as an expanded Notification Center, improved Mail and Messages, and iCloud Drive file storage.

However, the tech giant did release the seventh developer preview of OS X Yosemite this month through the App Store or from the company's developer portal, as Wired magazine has reported.

"Apple's latest desktop operating system, OS X Yosemite, won't officially come out until sometime this fall," Wired stated. "But now that its public beta is open, both developers and a large number of Mac owners are able to use a preview version of the landmark OS."

Since June, the company has already seeded a number of Yosemite beta versions, with which the current Developer Preview 7 version was made available last Sept. 2. A public beta was released last July 24 while a second iteration was offered to public testers last Aug. 21.

Apple has also mentioned about recent issues on Family Sharing, Gatekeeper, Handoff, iCloud Drive, Aperture, iPhoto, and Safari. Sharing of purchase history has not yet been enabled while the use of Handoff to share an untitled TextEdit document between Macs may cause errors. Photo apps have reportedly been generating user interface problems, including slow importing and exporting.

Apple has also cautioned that Web developers should remember to carefully and extensively test their websites using Safari.

Alongside the latest Yosemite beta, the company has released the new beta versions of Xcode 6, OS X Server 4.0, and Apple Configurator 1.7, as reported by Appleinsider.com.
