Apple released the sixth public beta version of OS X Yosemite on Oct. 13. Just two days prior to this, the company made the fifth beta version available for download.
Since OS X Yosemite is expected to be one of the products to be unveiled on Thursday, Apple has been very keen on having it tested by developers. This is to discover and fix bugs and other issues as well as to implement further improvements before it is deemed ready for an official rollout.
The event starts at 1p.m. ET/ 10 a.m. PT, and the Yosemite is expected to be available for download after the event.
Users enrolled in the Mac Developer program can get a feel of the upcoming update by downloading the sixth beta version from the Mac App Store. As for those who aren't, media outlets make it a point to disseminate every bit of detail about it.
OS X Yosemite gives Mac computers a sharp, modern look. Redesigned bits include a revamped dock (with new fonts) and transparent windows. Apple has included tons of useful features in the update, such as Mail, Safari, and Messages.
On of the operating system's main focus is its ability to painlessly connect with other Apple devices. To make seamless connections with iOS 8 hassle-free, Apple injected a feature called "Continuity." To illustrate the feature: an incoming phone call on one's iPhone can be answered through the user's Mac computer.
"Handoff" is also something to note. It is Apple's way of sharing tasks and getting them done on a Mac, even if they are started on an iPhone, and vice versa. But Bluetooth LE is needed for that, meaning an updated Apple device is needed for it to work. Sending from an iPhone to Mac has also been made easy with AirDrop.
The iCloud Drive has also been enhanced for more convenience. Managing files is expected to be easier and less pricey. Users get 5 GB storage for free, and a whopping 200 GB upgrade only costs £2.99 a month.
Apple also added a "Today" view in the notifications, which contains the user's preferred widgets. The Spotlight search is now located in the middle of the active display.
The beta versions for OS X Yosemite constantly received new features as they stacked up. But since it is only a matter of time before the operating system is released (assuming its finalized version comes out on Thursday), the last few of the preview versions were not too different from each other, MacRumors stated.
Apple has also released the third golden master candidate version of OS X Yosemite just recently, which means that it is highly probable that the final version will be revealed on Apple's Thursday event.
