'Super Smash Bros.' Wii U: No DLC beyond Mewtwo, says game director

The Wii U version of the latest "Super Smash Bros." game rolled out this Friday. While avid gamers will crowd the Nintendo eShop to grab the game, the game developer announced that players who own both the Wii U and 3DS versions of "Super Smash Bros." will be gifted with a lot of treats.

Gamers can get a free two-disc soundtrack and a free Mewtwo character DLC when they register both versions on Club Nintendo. Reports added that the same deal will be offered in spring 2015.

The Mewtwo DLC will probably be the last DLC players will see. Although some players would love to see downloadable content for the new "Super Smash Bros." game, the game director killed those hopes by announcing that Nintendo has no plans of releasing an expansion pack for the video game.

Game director Masahiro Sakurai told Video Gamer that he has no concrete plans to release a DLC for "Super Smash Bros." for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. He said that he does not want players to feel like something was left out in the release of the game that a DLC is needed. He added that he wanted to avoid criticisms from players that the game developer is cutting the content by offering the characters one by one for profit purposes.

Although a DLC for the game can be a money-making strategy as well as a good advertising and marketing technique to keep the excitement among players, the game developer has no intention to do it.

Sakurai added that making a DLC or adding a new character costs a huge amount of money and requires a number of people. He said that price and effort to add a character in the current roster will not justify the criticisms and backlash the team will receive.

The current roster of "Super Smash Bros." boasts 51 characters with 39 characters readily available, while players will have to work hard to make the 12 hidden characters appear in the game.
