Nintendo's latest home console, the Wii U, has drastically failed as it is now considered as the weakest selling console by Nintendo in recent years. Recently, the company announced their next project, codenamed NX, but it appears that the new gaming system won't be made available until 2017.

Nintendo made no mention of the new console at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2015, to the wonder and disappointment of many of their fans and avid video game followers. According to a report from CrossMap, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata already mentioned earlier that no further news about the NX will be released until 2016.

"We do not plan on talking specifics about the the NX until 2016," stated Iwata when fans asked if the NX would be unveiled during the E3. "Presently, we cannot talk about the time period when it the NX will go on sale or what it's like. Because we are calling it a 'new concept,' we are not thinking of this as a 'simple replacement' for the 3DS or the Wii U."

He also stated that Nintendo is not going to abandon their focus on home console gaming just because they struck a deal with mobile game publisher DeNA to make mobile games. Nintendo also confirmed in a previous statement that the NX would not use Android OS in order to run mobile games.

According to the report from CrossMap, because Nintendo is treating the NX as a new concept and because of Iwata's statement that no further details will be shared until 2016, it is very likely that the NX won't hit store shelves until 2017, a full five years after the launch of the Wii U.

In a recent report from Express, Nintendo game developer and video game icon Shigeru Miyamoto explained that a part of the Wii U's failure was because people did not "understand" the console and also atteibuted the rise of tablets to the Wii U's inability to stay unique and innovative.
