Nexus 5 price cut: Get smartphone for $30 less

After the news that Google restocked the Nexus 5 in the Play Store, discounts on the handset started to emerge.

Retailer Expansys is offering the device for $319.99. This is $30 less than the original price of the smartphone. Unfortunately, the deal is only for the red variant of the handset. The retailer did not disclose until when the deal will last, but it is suspected that it will be available until the retailer exhausts all stocks, which may not be long. Meanwhile, consumers can also head to the Google Play Store to get the Nexus 5 for its normal price.

Android Origin reported that Google brought back the Nexus 5 because of the low sales of the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 devices. It was initially reported that the tech giant will cease the production of the Nexus 5 to boost the sale of the new Nexus 6 smartphone. However, it seems that the alleged plan is not working out as planned since consumers are still not picking up Google's latest offering. Part of the reason why people are skipping the new device is because of its higher price tag that almost doubles the price of its predecessor. The Nexus 6 costs $649 and $699 for 32 GB and 64 GB, respectively.

The problem is worsened by the bugs and issues plaguing the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS that Nexus 6 came out with. Because the bugs have not yet been resolved, some consumers think that it is not wise to pick up the Nexus devices until Google rolls out a concrete fix for the Android 5.0 bugs.

Still, this could be the last time that consumers will see the Nexus 5 as Google reportedly said they will stop the production of the handset in 2015. Thus, buyers will no longer be able to find stocks of the Nexus 5 once the company ceases its production and sells off all of their stocks of the handset.
