'New Girl' season 6 spoilers: Jess and Nick may get together again

 Fox

"New Girl" season 5 ended on a happy note with CeCe (Hanna Simone) and Schmidt (Max Greenfield) officially getting married. Now, as noted by a report from Movie News Guide, there is also a chance that Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson) are getting back together as well when the show returns for season 6.

According to the report, series creator Elizabeth Meriwether confirmed that it was intentional for Jess to realize she still had feelings for Nick and for this to be apprent during the season 5 finale. The only main obstacle to this is the fact that Nick is now dating Reagan (Megan Fox) and there's the issue that they already did try going out before.

"It's a new dynamic between them, where now Jess is the one who is really pining after Nick. Earlier, in season 2, he was kind of pining after her, so the balance has shifted," she told Entertainment Weekly. "I've been trying to move them both in that direction, and what this finale does is have them both take big steps forward in that way,."

Meriwether also explained that by season 6 the doors would be open and Jess may be the one standing to let Nick in but this is only if Nick and Reagan don't stay together for long. According to Meriwether, Nick's relationship with Reagan also shows how far he has matured and improved in handling a relationship, something he did not have back when he was dating Jess.

It is highly speculated that Reagan and Nick will separate before season 6 is over and this will give Nick and Jess an opportunity to try again. However, Meriwether did confirm that fans should not hope for them to immediately get together right off the premiere episode as this will take time for them to develop another romantic relationship.

"New Girl" season 6 begins production this summer and will premiere on Sept. 20.
