"NCIS" season 12 was frantic, chaotic, and it ended on a sudden cliffhanger when Luke shot Agent Gibbs in the chest and leg. The finale ended without revealing if Gibbs survived or not, but according to a report from Ecumenical News, this will be addressed immediately come season 13.
According to the report, the premiere episode of season 13 will take place moments after the season 12 finale and will significantly follow Luke Harris and Mike Franks, a character who was presumed dead since season 8. The premiere episode will also immediately reveal if Gibbs survives or not.
In an interview with "The Late Late Show with James Corben," Agent Gibbs actor Mark Harmon said, "I really believe this, but I think anybody in the show is replaceable. The truth births, characters leaving. It always has, and I always think there's always been a creative footprint on the show. I think it keeps actors healthy."
Vinereport points out that killing Gibbs might not be a good move for the show, given that Harmon has pretty much become the face of the series and has been there since day one of the first season.
Executive producer Gary Glasberg stated, as cited by Vinereport, that any time one of the characters faces danger, the whole crew is affected. The team needs to then evaluate the overall psychological and other long-term effects on each individual character and from there, they can move forward with the series.
The website also states that the first episode of the next season will feature Tony and Joana heading over to Iraq in search of Gibbs and they may be the pair leading the investigation to stop Luke and ensure that Gibbs survives.
According to Ecumenical News, another "NCIS" regular, actor Michael Weatherly, will not just be in season 13 but will also have his first crossover appearance in "NCIS: Los Angeles" season 7. According to the report, his scenes have already been shot.
"NCIS" season 13 premieres this fall.
