Moto X (2014) vs Samsung Galaxy S5 comparison: Is it time to make the switch?

Moto X 2nd Gen Motorola

Motorola introduced the refreshed version of its flagship smartphone – Moto X.

The handset was launched at last week's IFA trades show, and the Moto X got some pretty good reviews from critics. It can take on the flagship phones of other Android-based mobile manufacturers, and it will battle head-on with Samsung Galaxy S5 released earlier this year. Below is the comparison of the specs and features between Samsung Galaxy S5 and the new Moto X (2014) handset.

Screen display

The new Moto X packs a slightly larger screen display of 5.2 inches with Full HD resolution that promises clearer and sharper pictures. Samsung Galaxy S5, on the other hand, sports a 5.1 inches Full HD screen panel.

Processor

The Motorola handset is powered by a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with a decent RAM in boot. The smartphone also includes an Adreno 330 graphics chipset. The LTE version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 runs with 2.5 GHz quad core Snapdragon processor, while the 3G version is powered by Exynos 5422 chip. The handsets come with 2GB RAM.

Internal storage

Moto X's successor is available in variants with 16GB and 32GB internal storage. Unfortunately, the smartphone skipped the microSD slot for additional storage. Samsung Galaxy S5 has a 32GB internal storage and comes with microSD slot of up to 64GB for additional storage

Operating System

The smartphone runs with the latest 4.4.4 version of Kitkat OS since Android L mobile software is not yet announced. However, rest assured that the handset will be updated on the said operating system once it was out. The Samsung Galaxy S5 packs a 4.4.2 version of the Kitkat OS. The OS update in Samsung devices is pretty slow.

Camera

The new Moto X sports a 13 MP back camera with 4K video capture. It also comes with a new feature named Best Shot. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has 16 megapixel back shooter. Both smartphones come with 2.1 MP front facing shooter.

Battery

The handset comes with a mediocre 2,300 mAh battery capacity. Samsung Galaxy S5 packs a 2,800 mAh battery life.
