Some of the new characters included in the upcoming downloadable content (DLC) pack headed to "Mortal Kombat X" may also be appearing in a new live action series.
News of the apparent connection began to pick up steam after "Mortal Kombat Generations" director Garrett Warren responded to a question on Twitter asking about what has happened to the live action series.
Warren responded by revealing that the series is lined up to make its debut early next year.
According to Design and Trend, an early 2016 premiere date for "Mortal Kombat Generations" would line it up perfectly with the possible launch of Kombat Pack 2 for "Mortal Kombat X."
It's not clear if the two actually have a connection as of now, but some are now pointing to the launch of the new live action series as the possible explanation for why Bo Rai Cho and Tri-Borg were included in Kombat Pack 2.
Some now believe that the two DLC characters will be showing up in both "Mortal Kombat X" and "Mortal Kombat Generations."
As of now, there's no telling how many connections, if any, will actually exist between "Mortal Kombat X" and "Mortal Kombat Generations" so fans will simply have to stay tuned to find out.
In addition to a new live action series, there may also be a new "Mortal Kombat" movie in the works, Comicbook.com reported.
Warren is the source for this bit of news as well, as the director responded to a question asking about the film's status. Warren responded by indicating that the film is in good hands and that it will indeed be made.
The year 2016 is shaping up to be a big year for the "Mortal Kombat" brand, and it could kick off with the new Kombat Pack 2 characters wreaking havoc inside "Mortal Kombat X" before they move on to other platforms.
