"Modern Family" season 7 episode 5, titled "The Verdict," saw Gloria (Sofia Vergara) leave for jury duty and the snowball of events that took place afterwards. As a newly legalized US citizen, Gloria was excited to head out for jury duty forcing her husband Jay (Ed O'Neill) to take their son to pre-school.

As pointed out in a report from Entertainment Weekly, the episode was all about instilling wisdom and how it can turn out horribly wrong at times.

To begin with, it was Jay that ended up learning a lesson from his time at the pre-school instead of his young son Joe (Jeremy Maguire). Despite not initially liking the school and how the kids treated him, Jay ended up having a strong connection with one of the stories told to the kids and even lightened up when Joe told him that he likes having his father around.

With Jay unavailable for the office, he had his daughter Claire (Julie Bowen) step in, and the latter was nothing short of excited to boast her skills at work to her two daughters whom she brought along. However, instead of being able to show off to her kids, the whole trip became a mess when she learned how much the employees rely on Jay.

Things turned out better for her when she was consoled by her daughters. Haley (Sarah Hyland) and Alex (Ariel Winter) both let their mom know that they already know how strong-willed and capable she is just for being there as their mother.

Phil (Ty Burrell) also ran into trouble when it was brought to his attention that he was scammed. However, he later learned that the supposed scam artist was the doctor that was present during Luke's (Nolan Gould) delivery. The discovery came too late however as Phil, Luke and their friends had already dumped trash into the doctor's car.
