Miriam Webster: We're not here to please man

|PIC1|CT: What was the best thing about being part of Hillsong Church?

MW: The highlights would be working with a team and all having the same goal which is to see people touched and to sing the worship songs together, being near together. We were all excited as a team and even praying as a team.

Now, although I’m still in relationship with them I have actually left them, because I am living in the US so I am attending a church there.

CT: It must have been encouraging to lead so many young people in worship?

MW: Yes, it is. What I loved was seeing them run in the front, seeing them praising and jumping, and seeing the passion on their faces and their excitement. But I kind of love seeing anyone, all the people, the young and old people, when you see anyone come as a child, that’s what is exciting.

I’ve not just been looking at the excitement of the young people, but I just love seeing anyone being touched by the Holy Spirit or healed. Because whenever there is the Holy Spirit at work there is liberty and everybody gets free in God and all come like a child so that’s what was really encouraging.

CT: So how do you keep your worship about God?

MW: I think for me what's always most important in my life is to have that time set aside with God and just keeping things simple, keeping the intimacy with Christ, and then when I get to lead, it's not just worship but it’s worship leading so standing up there boldly and who you are in Christ and I think that knowing that for all of us comes from time with God and in the Word and keeping knowledge that we are in Christ. So I am definitely setting up that time with God, I think it’s the most important.

CT: You are making a new album now. Tell me more about it.

MW: It has got a lot of new songs. I really felt strongly to do something new, so it’s kind of an album from the journey of the last few years and times when God has really touched me, His presence, or His mighty Word came alive, or I had some revelation, it’s something like that. It was just the right timing so I’m quite excited about it.

CT: Being in the USA, are you going to join another worship team or you are going solo for now?

MW: I lead a lot with other worship leaders. Sometimes I do solo things but I'm with a band all time.

CT: That sounds very promising.

MW: Oh, thank you. I’m very excited about God leading every step and being so faithful. I have a lot of things coming up, conferences and things.

CT: What would you say to encourage someone who’s feeling called to music ministry?

MW: I would say definitely to put God first, to have all your eggs in His basket, and to trust in Him that He is the security. One of the songs is about when God made me glad and what was so strong in that song was that God wants to be the catalyst in everything, you know, we are not here to please man, we’re here to please God because what we are doing is His work in us and it’s His purpose and His call in our lives so that is the most important; to develop a secret relationship with Him, to give ourselves with all heart to trust Him and to serve people, serving the church and just be doing what God has called each individual to do and just keep encouraging others, loving God and serving people. I’m very blessed to be in this chain; imagine that God will put you in the right place when you expect less.
