Mike Huckabee criticises Natalie Portman for glamorising out of wedlock pregnancy

He accused the actress, who is expecting her first child with fiancé Benjamin Millepied, of “glamorising” having children out of wedlock.

In a radio interview, Huckabee took issue with the acceptance speech made by Portman after scooping Best Actress for her role in Black Swan at the Oscars last Sunday.

In her speech, Portman thanked Millepied for “the most wonderful gift” and for giving her “my most important role of my life”.

Huckabee said: “People see a Natalie Portman or some other Hollywood starlet who boasts of, ‘Hey look, you know, we’re having children, we’re not married, but we’re having these children, and they’re doing just fine,’ … and I think it gives a distorted image.”

He suggested Portman was setting a bad example for society.

He said: “There aren’t really a lot of single mums out there who are making millions of dollars every year for being in a movie.

“Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can’t get a job, and if it weren’t for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care.

“And that’s the story that we’re not seeing, and it’s unfortunate that we glorify and glamorise the idea of out of wedlock children.”
