Christian country singer Carrie Underwood's husband and professional hockey player Mike Fisher is calling fatherhood a miracle, and compares his love for firstborn son Isaiah Michael Fisher to the love people receive from God.

Fisher, who plays for the Nashville Predators, became a father on February 27 this year and told The Tennessean in an interview: "It really, truly is a miracle from God that happens that is so cool. The first thing you think about now after a month is how much more you appreciate your parents and their love for you. Ultimately, I believe God the Father, His love for us changes the whole picture. It's a lot more vivid."

Fisher does not want to miss a single moment of fatherhood, but sometimes his work requires him to be away from home for several days straight. Underwood helps by sending him lots of photos of their son and talking to him via video phone.

"You come back from eight days, and it's like, holy cow, he changed so much," he said. "It's crazy how fast it goes. You almost want to slow down time a little bit."

But when he does get time to spend with his son, Fisher likes nothing more than to kick back, relax, and take a nap with baby Isaiah on his La-Z-Boy recliner.

"You're just cuddling together. Just being together," he said. "It's the best, for sure."

His next favourite thing is seeing his wife Underwood nurture their son, and he praises her for having "that instant instinct of being a mom."

On the other hand, the devoted dad also loves the smell of his son and even enjoys changing his son's diapers, saying that "it's part of the deal" of being a parent.

Fisher adds that their family is truly blessed and that there is nothing more he could ask for. "Our family's pretty awesome. There's nothing better," he said.
