Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date news: Launch speculated to land in June to October window

Surface Pro 4, the current model available Microsoft

The highly anticipated Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is set to be released sometime this year, and according to a report from The USB Port, it may launch between June and October and may have a starting price of $899 for the base unit. This will increase with the models that come with more hard drive space and a better processor.

According to the report, the Surface Pro 5 is likely to launch in October given that its predecessor, the Surface Pro 4, was launched in October 2015. However, previous iterations have released earlier than this. The Surface Pro 3, in particular, launched in June. For this reason the Surface Pro 5 may launch in between June and October this year.

Previous models have also been unveiled in February but the month has come and gone and Microsoft has not yet made any official announcements to date.

However, given that the expected release date for the Surface Pro 5 is stated to be in Q4 of the year it is more likely for the Surface Pro 5 to launch in late October or even in early November if plans need to be readjusted or if there is a special event for the Surface Pro 5 to be unveiled and launched at.

Reports from CNET state that the Surface Pro 5 is likely to have a suggested retail price of $899 but this will be for the base unit. A model with the Intel Core i7 processor is expected to launch with a $999 price tag and the model with the i7 Extreme or a Skylake-U processor may cost from $1,599 and above.

As previously reported, the new tablet is also expected to come with an improved Surface Pen that will no longer use a disposable battery. Instead, the battery can be recharged simply by hooking the Surface Pen to a special node in the tablet, ensuring that consumers will no longer need to have their Surface Pens replaced due to a dead battery.
