Microsoft Surface Phone news: More delays as Microsoft wrestles with Andromeda software

There are reports circulating that the long rumored Microsoft Surface phone is even further away than we originally thought.

Microsoft hasn't actually officially announced another Microsoft Surface phone but Microsoft fans have been clamoring for one and it's been rumored for quite some time now that the device is being developed with the working title of 'Andromeda.'

But now tech analyst Mary Jo Foley at ZDNet is quoting anonymous sources who have reportedly told her that the software to power the device is nowhere near ready.

Her sources reportedly told her that the device and the AndromedaOS are not ready for release this year and Microsoft is going back to the drawing board on the device. And what's more, she claims there won't be any AndromedaOS elements in the upcoming Windows 10 feature release, Redstone 5.

If the reports are true, it's anyone's guess with what that means for all the previous rumors and supposed leaks that pointed to the new Microsoft Surface Phone coming with a curved edged display and foldable features.

Those rumors have been fuelled by reports of patents that were filed by Microsoft recently.

According to WindowsReport, patents filed by Microsoft have fuelled the belief that Microsoft is working on the Surface Phone 2 and that there are three recent patents filed by the tech giant that have included foldable features and curved edged display.

Just last week, there was a report on ZDNet claiming that some new APIs seen in the latest preview of the Windows 10 gave further evidence for Microsoft working on a folding device.

Then there's another report in The Verge claiming that it has seen a Microsoft internal document describing a pocketable Surface device that will be "new and disruptive."

Until we get some official word from Microsoft, it's all rumor and speculation for now and we can't really be sure of anything.
