The Microsoft Surface Mini will finally debut this summer, according to a new leak.
It was expected that the Surface Mini will be announced alongside with the Surface Pro 3. Microsoft already launched the full-fledged tablet at the BUILD 2014 developer conference last month and remained silent about its miniature version.
Reports claimed that Microsoft initially planned to release the Surface Mini with the Surface Pro 3 but decided against it as it thought that it did not have what it takes to take on other tablets in its category. Thus, reports said that the miniature tablet headed back to production to improve its specs and features.
Meanwhile, Microsoft almost confirmed the existence of the Surface Mini, although indirectly. The company's user guide for the Surface Pro 3 has multiple references to the Surface Mini.
Reliable tipster @evleaks claimed that Microsoft will finally unveil the smaller tablet sometime this summer. "Microsoft Surface Mini is back in production, in anticipation of a summer release," a post from @evleaks states.
Aside from that, the tipster did not offer other details regarding the tablet's specs and features as well as the exact launch date of the tablet. Thus, everything is unclear until now. Now that the miniature tablet is ready for mass production, the Surface Mini will come with some impressive specs and features on board.
If rumors proved to be true, Surface Mini will battle head on with other small tablets, including slates from Apple, Samsung and Google.
Meanwhile, Microsoft Surface Pro 3 packs a 12-inch, high-contrast screen and an Intel "Haswell" processor. Microsoft is giving consumers a chance to get a tablet with i3 processors as Apple upgraded its laptops to the faster i5 Intel chips. The power hogging features of Microsoft's new tablet is supported by a battery with a capacity of up to nine hours for web browsing.
Microsoft Surface Pro 3 packs Windows 8.1, which is easy to use based on personal preferences. One of the advantages of getting the third generation of Surface tablet is its form factor. The tablet is considerably thinner with its thickness measuring only 9.1mm. It is also lighter as it weighs only 800 grams. Microsoft Surface Pro 3 costs $799.99. However, the optional keyboard costs $129.99.
