Microsoft Surface Book 2 release date rumored to be delayed until early 2017

The first laptop from Microsoft known as the Surface Book Microsoft

It was previously suspected that the Microsoft Surfact Book 2 would launch this year, presumably during this month of June or in October, alongside the new Surface Pro 5. However, a report from Tech Radar points out that it is more likely that the laptop-tablet hybrid will not launch until early 2017 to address several design flaws.

According to the report, there are two Redstone updates coming for Windows 10. The first update is scheduled to launch sometime this summer but this may not be the schedule for the new Surface Book 2. Instead, it will launch with the second update which is likely to launch in the first quarter of next year.

It is also stated that the next iteration of the Surface Book would be delayed as it is going to wait for the next version of the Intel Kaby Lake processors as these will be the key in resolving several internal issues. These processors will be available in large quantities by the end of the year and they provide native support for Thunderbolt 3 and Type-C USB as well as noticeable improvements to CPU and GPU capabilities.

Windows 10 is also the only platform that will support these new processors which is why many fans have speculated that Microsoft is waiting for them before launching the Surface Book 2.

While unconfirmed, there is also the possibility of the Surface Book 2 being delayed due to the new features that will make it into the final build. It was previously reported that a rechargeable Surface Pen is said to be added and the developers are also rumored to be addressing the unique hinge on the Surface Book 2 to make it easier and more practice to use.

Although no specific release date has yet been announced, an early 2017 launch for both the Redstone update for Windows 10 and the Surface Book 2 may hint at a February or March release window. This should be taken as pure speculation from fans until Microsoft announces an official date.
