Microsoft has released a new preview build for the upcoming Windows 10 Mobile, and insiders who have been invited to check out the preview will find the new version replete with new features.
Aside from the new features unlocked in the latest build, Microsoft also expanded the list of devices that can download the preview version. Windows 10 Mobile preview build 10080 now works on more Lumia phones, particularly on the Lumia 640 and 640 XL, the Icon, andd 930. The new preview version now also works with the first non-Lumia phone included in the list, the HTC One M8.
Part of the new build is the beta version for the Windows Store. Since the central sales hub is already unlocked in this version, users can now download the newest office apps for their preview platforms – the Office Universal. These universal apps will replace the Office Mobile hub that currently appears in Windows phones. Those with the new preview build already downloaded can go on and try the latest mobile versions of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and OneNote.
Additionally, the new version also comes with the Xbox app. Preview users who are also avid Xbox players can now access their friends list, achievements, messages, and other activity feeds from their Xbox One using the mobile version of Windows 10.
Since this is still a test build for the upcoming Windows 10 Mobile, there are still known issues that Microsoft is hoping to iron out before the platform's official release. One big glitch when porting from the old preview build is that the device will not be able to receive MMS after the update, and users must manually turn on data connection options to ensure connectivity.
The Windows 10 Mobile edition is expected to arrive later this year or early next year, after the PC version has rolled out. Microsoft plans on a staggered release for all versions of Windows 10.
