Actor Matt Damon has spoken out about the tragic suicide of Robin Williams.

In a statement to E! News, Damon said: "Robin brought so much joy into my life and I will carry that joy with me forever. He was such a beautiful man. I was lucky to know him and I will never, ever forget him.

"I truly hope the people in the media can find it within themselves to give his family some privacy during this horrible time."

Tributes continued to pour in for the late Robin Williams, who was found dead on Monday morning.

Ben Affleck, who starred with Robin Williams in "Good Will Hunting," which earned both actors an Oscar, wrote a touching tribute to Williams.

"Heartbroken. Thanks chief – for your friendship and for what you gave the world. Robin had a ton of love in him. He personally did so much for so many people. He made Matt and my dreams come true," he posted on Facebook.

"What do you owe a guy who does that? Everything. May you find peace my friend. #Robin Williams."

Fans flocked to the "Good Will Hunting" bench in Boston and made a makeshift memorial for the actor as news of his death shocked the world.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon co-wrote the screenplay for the highly successful film.

More details surrounding the death of the legendary actor were released during a press conference on August 12. The Marin Country Deputy Coroner revealed that Williams had tried slashing his left wrist before hanging himself. He was found with a belt tied around his neck, which was secured between the closet door and door frame. No suicide note was found.
