Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr. rematch to be Filipino boxer's last fight?

Professional boxer and eight-devision world champion Manny Pacquiao aims to retire after a final match in April next year. Who he is fighting has yet to be decided, but according to a report from News.com.au Pacquiao still hopes that his last match in the ring will be a rematch against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

As previously reported, Mayweather defeated Pacquiao via unanimous decision in their long-awaited match earlier this year. Mayweather went on to defeat Andre Berto and then finally retired from boxing with a perfect 49-0 record matched only by boxing legend Rocky Marciano.

Despite Mayweather's retirement, the report states that Pacquiao hopes the allure of money will coax the retired champion to step into the ring one more time. However, Pacquiao did release a video post on his official Facebook page explaining to fans that nothing has yet been confirmed at this point.

"I don't know yet who's my opponent next but we're still negotiating right now about the rematch with Floyd Mayweather so hoping for that," he stated.

Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, responded to Pacquiao's invitation for a rematch via Twitter post, which stated, "Floyd Mayweather is RETIRED, end of discussion."

Mayweather later re-tweeted the post, further emphasizing that he may not accept Pacquiao's offer no matter how much money might be gambled to bring him out of retirement.

At the moment, the leading boxer that is speculated to face off against Pacquiao next year is Amir Khan, with Terence Crawford and Timothy Bradley also in the lineup. Bradley, however ,will only be legible for the match if he defeats Brandon Rios this November.

Manny Pacquiao confirmed that his match in April, whether against Mayweather or someone else, will be his last as the boxer intends to focus full time on his political career. Pacquiao, a congressman in the Philippines, is intending to run for senate in the Philippines' 2016 elections.
