"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" may have received mixed reviews but the film is generating over $700 million worldwide and is likely a good sign for the folks at Warner Bros. Pictures. According to a new report from IGN, the film will also impact the likelihood of "Man of Steel 2" becoming a priority or not.
Charles Roven, producer for the DCEU films, explained that "Man of Steel 2" is being considered at the time being but no movement has gone forward thus far.
"We're in the process of looking at that. But we don't have it on the schedule at the moment because we're quite busy with the movies that we have scheduled," he said.
Actor Henry Cavill, who portrays Superman in the DCEU films, explained that "Batman v Superman" will lay the grounds on whether or not a proper sequel to "Man of Steel" will go into production. If the film succeeds, he explains that Warner Bros. Pictures will be more excited to negotiate another standalone Superman movie.
However, Cavill did note that the executives at Warner Bros. Pictures are more concerned right now with their other films such as the standalone "Wonder Woman" movie being directed by Patty Jenkins and the "Aquaman" film being helmed by James Wan. There are also the two "Justice League" films being done by Zack Snyder.
Snyder also mentioned in the IGN report that the chances of a proper "Man of Steel 2" happening depends on whether or not a good script will come in the studios. If a good story and a good script can be completed then the studios may look into "Man of Steel 2" a little bit more.
Despite this, it is important to note that Warner Bros. Pictures may be considering a standalone Batman film now more so than a "Man of Steel 2" film, particularly if Ben Affleck decides to write, direct and star in the film. Superman already has a solo film and at the moment Batman is the only DCEU character without a solo film scheduled.
