MacBook Air Retina 2014: Absence on new laptop line disappoints Apple fans

Much to the disappointment of some Apple fans, the company left out its MacBook line from its press event last Oct. 16 — they did not release an updated MacBook Air with Retina display.

It was initially thought that the MacBook Air Retina will be released this fall, but the event focused on rolling out the new OS X Yosemite along with the new Mac Mini and new Retina-display iMacs as well as the new generation iPad line. Thus, a lot of Apple fans waiting for the new laptop ended up frustrated.

Rumors about the MacBook Air Retina crowded the news before the press event. However, the device went missing in action. One probable reason why Apple held back the release of the MacBook Air Retina is to prevent the device from overshadowing other Apple products set to be launched on the same date. Moreover, it is most likely that the MacBook Air Retina will wait for the launch of Intel's Broadwell processors. It was initially thought that the new chipset will be released this fall, but Intel reportedly claimed that the chips will arrive to devices early next year.

The absence of the MacBook Air Retina sparked rumors that its release date is now pushed to 2015 and will be available in three color variants, namely space gray, silver and gold.

Rumors about the new MacBook Air have been going around for quite some time, and they mostly center on the Retina display to be added on the device. Some of the other predicted features of the upcoming MacBook Air are: 12-inch monitor with 2K screen resolution; 1.35 kg in weight; 128 GB or 256 GB SSD; 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5; 4 GB RAM; 2x USB 3.0; Mini DisplayPort / Thunderbolt 2.0; Memory card reader; and 720p FaceTime camera.

However, Apple has not confirmed nor denied these rumors nor has the Cupertino-based company given any solid indication that the laptop would be released early next year.
