MacBook Air 2016 release date: August release ahead of mobile devices

 Apple

The MacBook Air 2016 has been rumored since late last year and was initially speculated to launch in March or May. However, Apple did not release a single new MacBook since the beginning of the year and according to Tech Radar, the next iteration is potentially going to launch this August, a month before Apple releases their mobile devices.

By September Apple is expected to launch the next iteration of the iPad Pro or iPad Mini, the iPhone 7 and 7s and lastly the Apple Watch 2. With the launch of new mobile devices in September the company is also speculated to release iOS 10, their primary mobile OS, alongside them.

However, the larger products such as Mac desktops and MacBooks like the aforementioned MacBook Air may be launched a little earlier in order to give them free space in the market before all eyes go to the iPhone 7. This is only likely to happen if the MacBook Air 2016 is still being developed and has not already been cancelled.

Should the MacBook Air 2016 indeed be released then it is likely to feature a Retina display, an upgrade that fans have been clamoring for since 2014.

Despite a potential release, fans have been speculating that Apple done with the MacBook lineup and may even slow down with their updates for the Mac desktop. This is all based on a statement made by Apple CEO Tim Cook last year, as reported by the Telegraph.

"Yes, the iPad Pro is a replacement for a notebook or a desktop for many, many people. They will start using it and conclude they no longer need to use anything else, other than their phones," Cook explained at the time, implying that the company may soon focus entirely on mobile devices instead of their MacBook lineup.

Apple has yet to make an official statement regarding the fate and release date of the MacBook Air.
