The Mac Mini 2014 release date is reportedly set this month, alongside OS X Yosemite.

Latest reports claim that the new Mac Mini 2014 will be unveiled on Oct. 21, which is the rumored date of the press event of Apple. The press event is speculated to introduce the new desktop operating system, OS X Yosemite, as well as the iMac with Retina display and the new iPad Air.

The last update of the Mac Mini was made in 2012, which is why users are expecting a refreshed version to be released soon.

Previous reports stated that the Mac Mini will pack Intel's new Broadwell chips. However, rumors are going around that the processors will not be shipped this month, hinting that the release of the device will happen early next year.

If Apple will push through with the unveiling of a refreshed version this month, the computer will be powered by a Haswell chipset, which is a big jump from the processor of the current Mac Mini.  Haswell processors will boost the general speed of the device and improve the graphics performance of the computer. The chipset will be paired with 8 GB of RAM.  But while the computer will be powered by a more powerful processor, it is expected to use less energy.

According to rumors, the new Mac Mini will receive a new design and will feature upgrades on the visuals and build. There is a high possibility that the form factor will be thinner and smaller since it will purge the CD drive. Redesigning the new Mac Mini is said to be one of the reasons for the delay of the release of the device.

Another supposed major upgrade in the Mac Mini 2014 is the inclusion of a flash drive, which is faster than 500GB hard drive in the current entry level model. Moreover, the device will most likely add the 802.11ac Wi-Fi, which is often referred to as 'Gigabit' Wi-Fi, which offers speeds up to three times the existing 802.11n wireless networks.
