Christian disability charity Livability is inviting church leaders to attend a conference addressing the place and role of disabled people in their congregations.
Livability said it wanted to stimulate churches “to respond in a truly Christian way to disability and disabled people”.
“In the UK, there are over 10 million adults who have a recognised disability and a further 700,000 children have one or more disabilities,” said a spokesperson for the charity.
“Disabled people make up a large part of our communities and churches need to be able to involve them in their activities.”
Livability is hosting The Enabling Church conference in London on October 7, together with Churches for All and Premier Christian Radio.
Speakers at the conference include the international director of Langham Preaching, Jonathan Lamb, former head of Faithworks, Malcolm Duncan, and the Bishop of Exeter, the Rt Rev Michael Langrish.
A recorded talk by campaigner Joni Eareckson Tada will be broadcast at the conference.
The conference will take place on Thursday 7th October 2010 at Friends Meeting House, 173 Euston Road, London NW1 2BJ. Standard booking is £25 per person.
