LG Electronics has already launched its newest flagship, the LG G6, shortly after the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona last month. Nonetheless, a new device is expected to be launched later this year, which will reportedly carry a curved organic light emitting diode (OLED) screen.
According to Android Headlines, a recent report from South Korea implies that LG Display, the panel-division of LG, has already agreed to provide the supply of the curved OLED screen to LG, citing sources who are familiar with the matter. Even though it is still unconfirmed, many believe that this device pertains to the LG V30.
The sources also mentioned that Chinese company Xiaomi is also looking into acquiring huge quantity of the same technology for its upcoming flagship that is set for release at the second half of this year. Similar to LG's upcoming device, it is still uncertain which Xiaomi device will carry the new screen panel, but there are speculations that it pertains to the Xiaomi Mi Note 3.
Meanwhile, aside from LG and Xiaomi, there are other industry players who are also striking a deal with LG Display for the said technology.
Earlier this week, a Korean-language report from Economic Times revealed that Google is working on a deal with LG Display worth $880 million for a large supply of flexible organic light emitting diode (OLED) display. This is to ensure that the company will have enough stocks of the screen panel for the upcoming iteration of the Google Pixel series.
According to the news, LG Display is "carefully considering" the proposal. One of the reasons behind this is maybe because Apple is also planning to order the same curved OLED screen panels in line with the iPhone's tenth year anniversary this year.
Once the new curved OLED screen is used in the device, it is anticipated to look similar to Samsung's recently launched flagships, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus.
