LG G4 release date set for May 2015

The LG G4 smartphone may no longer appear in the two upcoming tech events early next year as the device's release date has reportedly been pushed back to May 2015. The new handset will follow the launch window of the previous model, the LG G3, which was announced in May this year.

It was initially reported that LG Electronics will alter the release date of its flagship smartphone and will launch the G4 earlier next year to match the releases of its rivals like HTC One M8 and Samsung Galaxy S6. However, it seems that the company will aim for Samsung's Galaxy Note 4 and Apple's iPhone 6 Plus instead.

There are some hints that the LG G4 will be a tablet-smartphone hybrid. One, the device is rumored to include a stylus dubbed as LG G Pen. LG filed a patent for the said accessory at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office early this month. Moreover, the company trademarked the "G Scrawl," purported to be the software that will support the stylus. Then, LG reportedly ceased the production of the LG G Pro line, which is its supposed phablet line, in favor of the G4. Reports added that the company will invest most of its resources to develop its flagship smartphone.

The LG G4 is rumored to boast a 5.3-inch screen display with no bezels and quad HD (1440 x 2560) resolution. It will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 chipset with 64-bit architecture, although there are reports that the handset will be equipped with LG's homegrown octa-core Nuclun processor. Other speculated features of the G4 are 32 GB and 64 GB storage variants with microSD slot for additional storage, Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system, 20.7-megapixel rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization technology, and 3500 mAh battery.

LG has not commented on these rumors, but more details are bound to emerge soon.
