Lawyers warn of 'God's judgment' if Supreme Court allows same-sex marriages

As the US Supreme Court prepares to hear oral arguments on cases from various states questioning the constitutionality of same-sex marriages, a group of lawyers is warning of "God's judgment" should the Supreme Court give the unions its backing.

After conflicting decisions by different state appeals courts in cases against same-sex marriages, the justices of the Supreme Court agreed in January to give their verdict on the constitionality of gay marriages.

Oral arguments will take place on April 28, with a ruling expected in June.

According to the Christian News Network, the US Justice Foundation in Ramona, California and the law offices of William Olsen from Vienna, Virginia filed a legal brief with the Supreme Court describing possible consequences should the Supreme Court decide to force states to accept same-sex marriages.

The lawyers stated that homosexual marriage and behaviour are a "repudiation of God's created order," and warned that recognising same-sex marriages would bring God's judgment.

"Should the court require the states and the people to 'ritualise' sodomite behaviour by government issuance of a state marriage license, it could bring God's judgment on the nation," the lawyers said.

The attorneys also quoted a passage in the Book of Jude, which denounces the sins of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah for practising sex between the same gender or going after "strange flesh."

'Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire," the quote said.

Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed by God in the Book of Genesis with fire and brimstone. The two cities are used in modern parlance as metaphors for vice and homosexuality.
