Back in November 2015 Kendrick Lamar's sister teased via Facebook post that the highly-anticipated Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole collaboration album will launch by Feb. 16 this year. Speaking to MTV News, TDE President Dave Free has now addressed the reality of the album's release date and if it is even in production.

When asked if the album will indeed see a 2016 release, Free coyly replied and his statement neither denied nor confirmed the release window speculated by fans. Instead, his statement merely reveals that the artists and studios behind them are open to the idea but there's no confirmation that something is already in the works.

"Anything's a possibility. Everything's a possibility," he replied.

However, Free also explained that at this point in their careers, both musicians are at their peak and still have a lot of work to accomplish. Fans speculate that this means the two artists are still focusing on their solo career and may have solo album or tour plans to attend to before they can be free enough to work together.

"A joint album does sound great, but people need to understand, these are two geniuses," stated Free. "These are two creative guys. It takes a long time for one of them to get in a space to create a song, so to get two of them in a space to do that, it takes a lot of time and energy. It all has to be a singular project, but it just can't happen overnight."

Free also explained that Kendrick is constantly working and that the artist is working on a follow-up album to his album "To Pimp a Butterfly," although there is no confirmation yet when this project will finish and when it will release.

If the album does indeed launch this February then the studios will need to announce it soon and begin marketing as there will be some tight competition with the release of Kanye West and Rihanna's new albums at roughly the same time frame as well.
