Joyce Meyer says people are 'desperate for God all the time, whether we realise it or not'

One of the most important things Christians need to learn is to prioritise God in their lives. Charismatic Christian author and speaker Joyce Meyer says getting to know God is one thing, but keeping God in one's life is another thing entirely.

In an article for The Christian Post, she shares the Bible verse Psalm 27:4 to prove her point: " One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple."

Meyer says the verse talks about seeking God and not just the blessings He can give people. "Now, there is nothing wrong with asking Him for the things you want and need, but they should not be your focus," she says. "If you want to determine honestly if God is first in your life, then ask yourself this question: 'Is God first in my time?'"

Meyer wants people to reflect on how they spend their time. If everything they do is keeping God out, then God is not their first priority. But the truth is, Meyer says, people "really are desperate for God all the time, whether we realise it or not."

"You know, we can be as close to God as we want to be. The key is putting time into our relationship with Him," she says. "I recommend that you spend time with God first thing in the morning, but if that doesn't work for you, at least take a few minutes to focus on Him and give Him your day before you get caught up in the busyness of everyday life."

Meyer says God loves people and wants to show His love for them. However, God wants people to have a personal relationship with Him that goes "deeper than us just coming to Him when we need something or have an emergency."
