Duck Dynasty's John Luke Robertson and Mary Kate McEacharn are enjoying the latest phase of their relationship together as an engaged couple and at the centre of it all they are keeping God, the young lovebirds say.

The couple got engaged last weekend to the delight of their respective families and are getting used to the change in their relationship.

What with marrying someone famous, Mary Kate told Fox411 that it's been an "interesting" adjustment.

"I guess through our dating life, I was seeing how it was for him and seeing what all of that was about. I didn't realize how much things would change though when we did get engaged. It has been very interesting, but good, all that's happening."

And while some have said they are too young to be getting married, Mary Kate certainly has a mature head on her shoulders, revealing she wouldn't just date anyone.

"I never had a boyfriend before and I had just been waiting and thought God would send someone to me," McEacharn told FOX411. "I was just very particular whenever it came to who I would date and I had to get to know him first and see if he was up to my standards."

Robertson was good humoured about it, adding: "It took some work and trying."

He too is serious about what the priorities should be in their relationship and revealed that both of them were agreed that the thing that comes first is God.

"We said in the beginning when we started dating that if our relationship is not centered on God and if we're not encouraging one another to stay faithful and to just love people then we have no relationship at all," Robertson told FOX411.

He credited his parents, Willie and Korie Robertson, for raising him with a sense of the importance of setting rules and making the commitment "to stay pure".

As for the critics who say the teenagers are too young to marry, John Luke isn't really bothered what they think.

"Everyone has said something about us getting married too young and I think pretty much all of them are unmarried," he said.

The question on everyone's lips is when will the couple tie the knot but as yet, no date has been announced.
