'Jessica Jones' season 2 spoilers: 'The Defenders' will affect show's story; Upcoming season will have multiple villains

"Jessica Jones" season 2 is happening but not until after the release of "The Defenders," "Iron Fist" and "Luke Cage." According to a report from Cinema Blend, "The Defenders" will have a significant impact on "Jessica Jones" season 2 and it will be more than just a superficial connection.

According to the report, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg has confirmed that she has been collaborating with "The Defenders" showrunners Marco Ramirez and Doug Petrie. Rosenberg reveals that they have been collaborating with the people responsible for the solo shows.

"They want my input, they want all the different showrunners' input on the characters that they're most familiar with," she said. "They enjoy collaboration, which is not always the case, and they listen, and we listen to them. We're really trying to find a way to respond to the things that they want to do, and them to respond to the things we want to do"

It is uncertain at this point how "The Defenders" will ultimately affect "Jessica Jones" season 2 although fans speculate it may be about Jessica Jones' (Krysten Ritter) character progression or about how "The Defenders" will affect the criminal underworld and those in power.

Not only will the show have deeper connections but it will feature more than one main villain. Season 1 had Kilgrave (David Tennant) but season 2 will not be repeating the same presentation. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Rosenberg revealed that season 2 will shake the formula up by introducing multiple antagonists.

Screen Rant reports that the new villains might include Nuke (Wil Traval) and even Jessica Jones' own step-sister, Trish Walker (Rachel Taylor) if and when Trish transforms into the villain-turned-hero known as Hellcat. The report goes on to compare this possible relationship between Jessica and Trish to what Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and Punisher (Jon Bernthal) had in "Daredevil" season 2.

"Jessica Jones" season 2 will premiere by 2018 or 2019.
