J.J. Abrams news: To create brand-new sci-fi television series

American director, writer, and producer J.J. Abrams is setting in motion his plans of making a return to the small screen with an upcoming series that he plans to write himself. To the excitement of the many fans of Abrams' prolific work, he is planning to work on another science-fiction drama television show, which could be helmed by HBO or Apple.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. Television is slated to produce Abrams' next project. However, since the show has not yet began production, other studios or executives are still eligible to pick up the series before pre-production can begin. HBO and Apple are currently the biggest bidders, and have decided not to comment further on the upcoming sci-fi drama by Abrams. As of now, the title of the television series has yet to be revealed.

It is notable to mention that Abrams is currently a producer for one of HBO's biggest shows, "Westworld," Showtime's "Roadies," and the CBS drama thriller "Person of Interest." The upcoming television project by Abrams will mark his first television stint after the canceled show "Fringe," which was halted back in 2008. "Fringe" was able to amass a following, which is a testament to Abrams' talent and abilityy to pull in audiences as a sci-fi creator.

The story will focus on one family, wherein the matriarch works as a scientist and is married to her husband. The two have a daughter, and everything changes after the entire family gets into a vehicular accident, which leads to the mother slipping into a coma. After some time, the daughter checks on the scientific works of her mom, and is eventually transported into a mysterious land full of monsters and other evil forces. Her father follows shortly after.

The series is set to be produced under Abrams' banner, Bad Robot Productions.
