iPhone 7 release date: Next flagship rumored for September launch?

iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, the most recent releases from Apple Apple

Apple has not yet officially announced the iPhone 7 but according to a report from the Inquirer, it is very likely that the next generation of iPhone will be released this September. The report states that the iPhone will be unveiled in the middle of the month and will be made available afterwards, no later than Sept. 25.

According to a report from ALPHR, it is very likely that the new iPhone will be unveiled during Apple's San Francisco event scheduled for Sept. 8. As history has proven, Apple traditionally launches their products about 10 days after their unveiling, so it is likely that the new iPhone will be released between Sept. 18 to Sept. 25.

ALPHR reports that it has not yet been confirmed that the new phone will be the iPhone 7 and that there is a high possibility that it will instead be the iPhone 6s and an "s" equivalent for the iPhone 6 Plus, likely to be called the iPhone 6s Plus.

With regard to its specs, the report states that the new iPhone will feature a Sapphire Glass display. The report explains that Apple has been able to resolve a previous supply-chain problem that prevented the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus from utilizing Sapphire Glass so it stands to reason that the iPhone 7 or 6s will feature this new display.

The report also states that the iPhone 7 will feature Force Touch, a new system that detects how much pressure is applied on the touchscreen. This allows for different functions when a person lightly taps the screen and when they press harder.

As for its internal workings, the report states that the new iPhone will feature an A9 processor paired with an M9 co-processor. Running things on top will be the new iOS 9.

Apple has also acquired the LinX Computational Imaging company back in April which ensures that the next iteration of the iPhone will have a more powerful camera. ALPHR reports that the new camera will feature DSLR-like quality capabilities.
