With Apple generating their own offerings to address the demands of the large-screen smartphone market, the tech giant has now released the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and its first ever phablet, the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus.
A common review for the iPhone 6 Plus involves the use of a full HD display that has had a favorable impact on its brightness, contrast ratio, and color accuracy. Although the phablet is not quite similar to its quad HD competitors, including the LG G3, its full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution nonetheless has allowed Apple to rake in positive reviews.
Specifically, users have pointed out that such display has allowed them to enjoy browsing through their phone, play games, and edit their photos due to the full HD display. Moreover, screen visibility despite bright lights, along with polarized coating, has been a plus for the iPhone 6 Plus.
In terms of design, the iPhone 6 Plus has been praised by many for being taller and wider than the iPhone 6. With a slim profile, the phablet similarly boasts an aluminum chassis and sleek metal curves that are easily noticeable along the edges of the glass screen. Although its 8-megapixel camera sticks out from the phone's body, sapphire glass has been placed to protect the lens from unwanted scratches.
Speaking of cameras, although Apple's first phablet follows the same 8-megapixel sensor and the 1.2-megapixel front camera as the iPhone 5S, Apple has already generated improved features to the iPhone 6 Plus. These include phase-detection auto-focus along with Optical Image Stabilization to address the issue of blurred images and low light performance.
Battery life has also been a great concern among most users, so Apple incorporated a 2915 mAh battery cell into the iPhone 6 Plus, which is significantly more powerful than that of iPhone 5S' 1570 mAh battery and the iPhone 6's 1810 mAh battery. Normal use of the device without heavy web browsing and photo taking can make it last up to almost two days.
However, it still takes more than four hours for an iPhone 6 Plus' empty battery to become fully charged. Users have criticized Apple for not incorporating quick charge technology that has become common among smartphones these days, allowing users to have their phones fully charged in less than two hours.
In terms of special features, negative reviews have been raked in due to the fact that the iPhone 6 Plus does not come with new ones, except that it runs on the newly launched iOS 8. Aside from a wider keyboard and an app library with a wide range of content, the iPhone 6 Plus may be deemed as merely an unexpectedly large version of the iPhone.
