'Insurgent' movie update, trailer release date, first image still revealed

News and updates for "Insurgent" has been pretty scarce. Considering that it's just three months away from its theater release, it is only now that fans are getting some real news about the sequel to "Divergent."

Last month, fans were given a brief teaser from the movie. But with all that wait, that teaser wasn't enough to satisfy the curious minds of the "Divergent" book and movie fans. Now, there's great news as fans are close to finally seeing the full-length trailer that they have been waiting for.

But that's not all. "Insurgent's" official Twitter account also added another bonus — an image still of Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James). The image text reads, "Four days until #InsurgentTrailer."

The image was captioned: "Check your pulse, Initiates... The WORLD PREMIERE of the #InsurgentTrailer becomes reality FRIDAY!"

Yes, the official trailer will debut online on Dec. 12.

According to We Got This Covered, "Insurgent" will pick up right where it left off — Tris and Four running for their lives as they are now wanted fugitives. As for the synopsis, it reads:

INSURGENT raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris's family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world."

As mentioned, Kate Winslet will be back to reprise her role, along with Miles Teller, Zoe Kravitz, Naomi Watts and Octavia Spencer. Robert Schwentke directs the film and, as Variety reported, he will also direct the two-part third installment of the franchise. "Allegiant Part 1" is scheduled for release in March 2016, while "Allegiant Part 2" will be released in March 2017.

As for "Insurgent," it rolls out in theaters on March 20, 2015.
