'Indiana Jones 5' release date, spoilers: late 2018 premiere?

Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones LucasFilm

As recently reported, LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that the company will produce a new "Indiana Jones" film in the near future although no details about the project have yet been released. A new report now hints that the fifth movie may see a late 2018 release date.

In a report from Screen Rant, Disney Chairman Alan Horn stated that the next "Indiana Jones" won't be released until 2017 at the earliest, and according to Ain't It Cool, LucasFilm is currently eyeing a Q4 2018 release.

Both Kennedy and Horn confirmed that there is no story or script currently in development. Kennedy's husband, LucasFilm producer Frank Marshall, also stated that there are no discussions at this point regarding a new "Indiana Jones" movie.

Ever since Disney acquired LucasFilm, most of the attention has gone to their other big franchise, "Star Wars," although Kennedy did confirm that "Indiana Jones" would be made under the LucasFilm and Disney banner.

At this point, neither film outfit has confirmed if the fifth entry will be a sequel to "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls" or if it will be a reboot starring a new actor in the titular role.

According to the report from Screen Rant, it is very likely that the next movie in the franchise will be a reboot given that actor Harrison Ford would be too old for an action-filled flick. Ford will be 76 by the tail-end of 2018.

Rumors have spread across the Web that actor Chris Pratt is the current top choice for the role of Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones should LucasFilm reboot the franchise. Fans have also speculated that Bradley Cooper may be among the top contenders for the role.

Pratt is said to have denied these rumors, however, although it was previosuly reported here that he may still be considered due to the massive success of his most recent endeavor, "Jurassic World," also produced by Frank Marshall.
