There is word that Apple is set to release a new iMac before the year ends.  Citing display researchers WitsView as the source of the leaked information,Taiwanese news source Digitimes said that the refreshed iMac with a new high-resolution 27-inch Thunderbolt Display is bound to arrive by the end of fourth quarter of 2014.

The upcoming Thunderbolt Display will feature a 5K resolution or 5,120 x 2,880 pixels. Incidentally, Dell had already introduced a 27-inch, 5K display with a 5,120 x 2,880 pixel resolution or 218 pixels per inch. It seems that the PC maker has been on giving Apple a run for its money, as their unit rivals the iMacs with Retina display.

MacRumors reported that Apple planned to upgrade the configurations of the iMacs. There is also the possibility that the company will shave off some of the price of the iMac due to some minor specs bump.

Reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities predicted earlier that Apple will offer the iMacs at a lower cost. The cheaper price of the desktop will not only grab more attention, it will also help in catering to the growth of sales in foreign markets. He also said that iMac sales will increase by 23 percent this year.

Although recent reports show that the Mac business performed better than the overall PC market, Mac's growth is relatively slow.  The segment accounts for just 12 percent of the company's revenue and probably an even smaller percentage of operating income, so a lower-cost iMac could help Apple sustain year-over-year revenue growth a bit longer.

Meanwhile, there were rumors that Apple has hired a secret-development "dream team" to ensure that the company's upcoming devices will not be leaked to the public. One of the many concerns of Apple is the leaking information of its devices.  If there is, indeed, a security dream-team, then it needs to work harder because it seems that there are so many leaks that still need to be plugged.
